Poet Laureate (Term 4)

Congratulations to Mackenzie in Year 10 who won the Poet Laureate competition for this Half Term. Mrs Priestner who is the Literacy Lead and teacher of English commented by saying “This Poem is a beautiful marriage of poetry and technology! The rhythm and repetition is soothing and brings to mind the inevitable hierarchies and chains that make up our world.

Units of Data By McKenzie

Bits, the smallest unit of data,

Also, one eighth of a byte,

This can only store a zero or a one:

This is a bit.

Nibbles, still a very small amount of data,

Also, one half of a byte,

This can only store four zeros or ones or a mix of them:

This is a nibble.

Byte, still a very small amount of data,

Only a byte it is,

This can only store eight zeros or ones or a mix of them:

This is a byte.

Kilobytes, getting bigger but still a small amount of data,

One thousand and twenty-four bytes it is,

People round them down to one thousand bytes:

This is a kilobyte.

Megabytes, still quite a small amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four kilobytes it is,

People round down to one thousand kilobytes:

This is a megabyte.

Gigabytes, a large amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four megabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand megabytes:

This is a gigabyte.

Terabytes, a very large amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four gigabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand gigabytes:

This is a Terabyte.

Petabytes, an unimaginable amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four terabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand terabytes:

This is a petabyte.

Exabytes, a basically infinite amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four petabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand petabytes:

This is an exabyte.

Zettabytes, a basically infinite amount of data,

One thousand twenty-four exabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand exabytes:

This is a zettabyte.

Yottabyte, the largest unit of data,

One thousand twenty-four zettabytes it is,

People round down to one thousand zettabytes:

This is a Yottabyte.

Now we have gone through the units of data,

Here we go from smallest to largest:

Bit, nibble, byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte, petabyte, exabyte, zettabyte, yottabyte

And this is the end.
